Today let’s take a look at a Shimano Torium 14 HGA HG Star Drag Reel. This is a brand new star drag from Shimano. We saw this at ICAST this is Torium 14 in the new body design. They redesigned Torium last year but they didn’t do the 14 which is the most popular reel, especially for anyone who fishing in the Northeast. We just like the lightweight powerful reels and we’ve been waiting on this like I said for a year and it’s finally here and it’s just terrific what we expected a day.
Look at that Shimano has compact frame fits really nice when you hold it on your hand. It’s low-profile design. This reel is pretty small weighs in at just 19.20 ounces and holds 370 yards of 50-pound test rate. The perfect for anyone here in the Northeast in terms of you want a star drag reel that is powerful can handle bigger inshore fish like; striped bass and bluefish and fishing that kind of stuff and then if you wanted to take it down to Florida. For do some sniper grouper that kind of stuff first you out in California. You want to do some yellowtail this is a perfect reel for that. It’s a small star drag reel that has a lot of power and like all Shimano. They are super smooth and a lot of fun to fish. It is nice long aluminum handle comfortable knob. It’s like a rubberized knob and it infinite settings on a star drag. You can see the curve in the star drag. It’s really comfortable, your clutch nice big clutch puts its free spool. If you want to adjust the tension of the spool and of course, very nice clicker, nice loud to click.
This is a reel weighs just 1.8 pounds. It’s made out of aluminum 6.2:1 gear ratio. I wouldn’t get too caught up in the gear ratio. It is a fast reel 6.2:1 but they’re really so much power and the gearing is so good that you don’t really have those problems of the past of deciding between a 5 to 6 gear ratio. These rails nowadays are so powerful and so good that the difference to them is minimal and for ball bearings there, it’s just a really smooth reel. If you’re looking for a lightweight powerful star drag reel that you can catch bigger inshore fish with, this is definitely a great option. Check it out, it’s the Shimano Torium 14 Reel.
